About the name
Kourosh (Persian: کوروش، کورش; also spelled as Koorosh or Kurosh) is a Persian male name common in Iran. Kourosh is composed of kho- [sun] + vash- [like], meaning "like the sun". It was the throne name of Cyrus the Great and some other kings of the Achaemenid dynasty, historically translated into English and Latin as "Cyrus."
Although sometimes (Kurosh is) given as “young, child, adolescent,” it is more likely to be understood as “humiliator of the enemy in verbal contest”. The interpretation of the name by classical authors as identical with the Persian word for “sun” is certainly incorrect.
