Pushing Light Through a Darkened Palette

. . . is my entry for Earmaginations, a call for silent movies for SoundPedro 2019, a Sound Art exhibit on June 1st, 2019 at Angeles Gate Cultural Center, San Pedro, CA

. . is a visualization of the Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR).

. . . is a set of short looping silent animations (GIFS) using the animation technique of Color Cycling (a.k.a. Palette Animation) to step white, and sometimes bright colors, through the histogram of an image. On screen, this looks like a thin band of light scanning the surface of the framed object and mimics the reported characteristic of a tingling sensation moving down the back of the neck and upper arms.

. . .  uses the following common triggers and technology of ASMR to try and induce a low-grade euphoria that its viewers may find to be a beneficial therapeutic experience.

1. FIZZ ; Water; from Tiny Bubbles to Glacials

2. BUZZ   Hair;  From High 'N Tight to Microscopic

HD Screen Captures as Wallpaper

This image was made by compositing frames from 3 different moments in the 20-second title-sequence.

I see a smiling woman in a white turban and the head of a creature from Sendak’s Wild Things in this screen capture from the Buzz sequence. What do you see?

Another Wild Thing from Buzz.

This frame is from Hiss Purr, the sequence about the technology and techniques of ASMR.  The sequence title sounds like "whisper;" - a common technique to triggering ASMR,

About the name

Kourosh (Persian: کوروش، کورش‎; also spelled as Koorosh or Kurosh) is a Persian male name common in Iran. Kourosh is composed of kho- [sun] + vash- [like], meaning "like the sun". It was the throne name of Cyrus the Great and some other kings of the Achaemenid dynasty, historically translated into English and Latin as "Cyrus."

 Wikipedia

Although sometimes (Kurosh is) given as “young, child, adolescent,” it is more likely to be understood as “humiliator of the enemy in verbal contest”. The interpretation of the name by classical authors as identical with the Persian word for “sun”  is certainly incorrect.
